What has to be true before we publish it.
Articles carry a team byline. This is what it stands for.Our articles carry a team byline rather than one person's name, because the research, the drafting and the check are not one person's work. This page is what that byline stands for.
- 01
Every load-bearing claim names its source and its date
Figures, deadlines and legal positions carry the publication or the primary document they came from, linked, with the date it was published. A number without a date is not a fact, it is a memory.
- 02
One source is reported as one source
Where a claim appears in only one outlet, the piece says so in those words. We do not launder a single unverified report into a settled fact by omitting how thin it is.
- 03
The primary document beats the coverage of it
Where a government notice, gazette, court judgment or regulator media release exists, we read and cite that rather than an article about it. Reporting routinely drops the effective date; the notice never does.
- 04
Each piece names one thing a reader can do
If we cannot state the action in a single line, the piece is commentary and we do not publish it. Understanding a landscape is not an action.
- 05
Dated material carries an expiry
Anything tied to a deadline, a price or a rate is given a review date when it is written. When that date passes the piece is re-checked against the current position or it comes down.
- 06
We write about what we run
Zorah builds and operates this software for South African businesses. Where a piece draws on that, it is because we have implemented the thing being described, not because we have read about it.
