What the alternatives are, and what we simply connect to.
Each one says what the other product is good at, how it charges, and who should not move.Comparisons of the systems South African businesses run, written the way we would explain them on a call. Each one names what the other product is genuinely good at, states how it charges with the source and the date we checked it, and says plainly who should not move.
- ClickUp alternativeWork management platform
ClickUp is enormously configurable, and for a team with somebody willing to own that configuration it will bend into almost any shape you ask of it.
Per user, per month, by plan tier - Salesforce alternativeEnterprise CRM
Salesforce is the most capable CRM there is, and for a business with a large sales organisation and someone to administer it, very little else reaches as far.
Per user, per month, plus an implementation project - HubSpot alternativeCRM and marketing platform
HubSpot is the easiest serious CRM to start using, its free tier is genuinely useful rather than a trial, and for a marketing-led business the tooling is excellent.
Per seat, plus contact tiers, plus onboarding fees - Odoo alternativeModular open-source ERP
Odoo is a genuinely broad, modular ERP with an open-source core, and for a business with the appetite to configure it or the budget for a partner who will, it covers more ground for the money than almost anything in its class.
Per user, per month, billed annually - Zoho One alternativeAll-in-one application suite
Zoho One bundles more than forty applications under one per person price, and for a business that wants a lot of separate tools on one bill it is hard to beat on raw coverage.
Per employee, per month, on the all-employee plan - SAP Business One alternativeMid-market ERP
SAP Business One is a serious mid-market ERP carrying the depth and the audit standing that comes with the SAP name, sold and implemented through a partner rather than bought off a page.
Per user licence plus annual maintenance, quoted by a partner
The systems we connect to rather than replace.
We do not build accounting software. The ledger stays where it is.We do not build accounting software. The ledger stays where it is, your accountant carries on, and the invoice reaches it without anybody typing it twice.
- Zorah and SageAccounting and payroll software
Sage is the ledger most South African businesses keep their books in, and your accountant almost certainly knows it. We do not build accounting software and we have no interest in replacing it.
We connect to it - Zorah and XeroCloud accounting software
Xero is clean, modern cloud accounting with a strong app marketplace, and it is one of the best products in its category. It stays where it is.
We connect to it
Three questions that settle most of it.
- What is the best business management software in South Africa?
- There is no single answer, and any page that gives you one is selling. Accounting packages like Sage and Xero are the right choice where books are the requirement. Suites like Zoho One and ERPs like Odoo and SAP Business One trade breadth against implementation effort. The question that decides it is what is currently being typed twice.
- How do I compare business software fairly?
- Compare on the two things that do not change: what the product actually covers, and how it charges you. Feature lists converge within a year and tell you almost nothing. Per user, per employee, per organisation and fixed fee produce very different bills in year three at the same headcount.
- Should I replace my accounting system?
- Usually not. Most businesses that think they have an accounting problem have a join problem: the work happens in one place and the books in another, and somebody re-keys between them. Fixing the join is cheaper than a migration and it leaves the ledger your accountant knows in place.
Every pricing claim on these pages carries the vendor page it came from and the date it was checked. How we source and check them, and how Zorah charges.
